Maserati Mistral Spyder
Designed by Pietro Frua, the Mistral Spyder combined elegant Italian styling with Maserati's potent inline-six engine. The convertible variant was even rarer than the coupe, with just 125 built. The 4.0-liter version produced 255 hp and offered thrilling performance with wind-in-the-hair motoring in classic GT style.
Verify matching numbers and originality through Maserati Classiche. Check carefully for rust in floor pans, sills, and convertible top frame areas. The twin-cam six requires specialist maintenance and parts are expensive. Convertible top mechanism should operate smoothly. Look for proper service records including timing chain replacement. Original paint and interior significantly increase value given extreme rarity.
The Mistral was produced from 1963 to 1970 with the Spyder variant introduced in 1964. Of approximately 950 total Mistrals built, only 125 were Spyders. The 4.0-liter engine was the largest and most desirable variant. Bodies were hand-built by Maggiora in Turin to Frua's designs.
