Peugeot 508 PSE

The Peugeot 508 PSE (Peugeot Sport Engineered) marks a bold new direction for Peugeot's performance division. As the first road car to bear the Peugeot Sport Engineered badge, the 508 PSE combines a turbocharged four-cylinder engine with two electric motors to produce 360 horsepower and 520 Nm of torque through an all-wheel-drive system. It represents Peugeot's answer to the electrified performance sedans from BMW, Audi, and Mercedes-AMG.

The powertrain is a sophisticated plug-in hybrid system. A 1.6-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine producing 200 horsepower drives the front wheels through an eight-speed Aisin automatic gearbox. A 110-horsepower electric motor on the front axle and an 113-horsepower electric motor on the rear axle supplement the combustion engine, providing instant torque and all-wheel-drive capability. The combined system output of 360 horsepower and 520 Nm propels the 508 PSE from 0-100 km/h in 5.2 seconds.

Peugeot Sport's chassis engineers extensively reworked the standard 508's suspension. The ride height was lowered by 4mm at the front and 7mm at the rear. Spring rates and damper settings were revised for sharper responses. The front subframe was reinforced, and the rear multi-link suspension received revised geometry. Alcon four-piston front brake calipers with 380mm ventilated discs provide serious stopping power.

The 508 PSE's design is one of the most striking in the mid-size sedan class. The standard 508's already dramatic styling is enhanced with aggressive aero elements, including a deeper front bumper with larger air intakes, side skirts, a rear diffuser, and a subtle lip spoiler on the trunk. Kryptonite green accents on the brake calipers, badges, and interior stitching provide a distinctive visual signature for the PSE brand.

The interior continues Peugeot's i-Cockpit philosophy with a small-diameter steering wheel, high-mounted digital instruments, and a 10-inch central touchscreen. The PSE adds sports seats with green stitching, aluminum pedals, and carbon fiber-style trim. The 11.8 kWh battery allows approximately 42 km of pure electric driving, making the PSE practical for emissions-free urban commuting.

Available in both sedan and Sport Wagon (SW) body styles, the 508 PSE offers a combination of performance, practicality, and environmental responsibility that is genuinely compelling. While the hybrid system adds significant weight at 1,860 kilograms, the instantaneous torque delivery from the electric motors gives the car a sense of immediacy that a conventional powertrain cannot match.

The 508 PSE is a statement of Peugeot's intent to compete in the premium performance segment. Whether it will achieve the collector status of earlier Peugeot performance icons remains to be seen, but it represents an ambitious and technically impressive vision for the future of French performance cars.

Check battery health and capacity degradation. Verify the hybrid system charges correctly and transitions smoothly between modes. Alcon front brakes are expensive to service. Check for software updates, as early cars benefited from revised powertrain calibrations. Inspect for any signs of water ingress around battery compartment. All-wheel-drive system should engage seamlessly.

First production car with the Peugeot Sport Engineered designation. Available in sedan and Sport Wagon (SW) body styles. Built at Mulhouse. The PSE badge replaces the traditional GTI designation for Peugeot's electrified performance models.
