Lamborghini Miura SV

The Lamborghini Miura SV (Super Veloce) represented the ultimate evolution of the car that established the mid-engine supercar template. Introduced in 1971 as the final Miura variant, the SV addressed many of the earlier models' shortcomings while increasing performance to new heights. The result was widely considered the most beautiful and fastest production car in the world when new.

The 3.9-liter V12 was significantly revised with separate oil sumps for the engine and transmission (eliminating oil contamination issues), modified camshafts, revised carburetion, and improved breathing, resulting in 385 horsepower at 7,850 rpm. The gearbox received improved syncromesh, and the suspension was comprehensively redesigned with stiffer settings, new geometry, and a wider rear track for improved stability at high speeds.

Externally, the SV was distinguished by deleted 'eyelashes' around the headlights, wider rear fenders, revised rear panel with air vents instead of louvres, and split-rim Campagnolo wheels. The interior received better quality materials, improved air conditioning, and revised switchgear, though it remained spartan by luxury car standards. The driving position was still compromised by the transverse-mounted V12.

Only 150 Miura SV examples were produced between 1971 and 1973, making it by far the rarest Miura variant and among the most collectible Lamborghinis ever built. The combination of ultimate performance, refined dynamics, distinctive styling details, and extreme rarity has made the SV extraordinarily valuable, with pristine examples commanding prices exceeding $3 million. The Miura SV remains one of the most beautiful and significant automobiles ever created, representing the pinnacle of 1960s supercar design.

Authentication absolutely critical - verify chassis numbers against Lamborghini registry and Polo Storico. Complete documented history essential. Check for accident damage as space frame repairs extremely complex and expensive. Engine should be correct matching-numbers V12 with split-sump oiling. Verify extensive service records and recent mechanical recommissioning. Original paint and interior command significant premium. Many Miuras have been restored - quality varies dramatically. Ensure proper major service within last 5 years. Budget $20,000+ annually for maintenance. Insurance and storage costs significant. Trailer for transport recommended. Values have appreciated dramatically making insurance crucial. Pre-purchase inspection by Lamborghini Polo Storico or recognized specialist absolutely mandatory.

Final 10 SVs produced in 1973 after official production ended. Some earlier Miuras retrofitted with SV specifications by factory or specialists. Exact specifications varied as cars were semi-custom.
