De Tomaso Pantera L
De Tomaso's most successful model, the Pantera married stunning mid-engine Italian styling by Ghia with Ford's proven 351 Cleveland V8. The partnership with Ford allowed the Pantera to be sold through Lincoln-Mercury dealerships in the United States, making it one of the most accessible exotics of its era. The Pantera's combination of exotic looks, robust American power, and relative affordability made it hugely popular. Over 7,000 were built during its long production run, with early push-button 'L' models being particularly sought after today.
Inspect for rust in chassis, particularly rear frame rails and around suspension pickup points. Check ZF transmission for wear. Verify cooling system upgrades. Many have non-original engines or modifications. Service history important. Parts availability good due to Ford V8.
First generation 'L' models produced from 1971-1974. Later versions included GTS, GT5, and GT5-S variants with increasing levels of performance and modifications through 1993.
