Alfa Romeo Giulia Sprint GTA 1600
By 1965, Autodelta had refined the GTA package based on extensive racing experience. The aluminum-bodied Giulia Sprint coupe remained the basis, but detail improvements to the engine, suspension, and braking made this vintage particularly competitive. The 1570cc twin-cam four produced 115 hp in road specification with twin Weber 45 DCOE carburetors.
The 1965 models benefited from improved camshaft profiles, better-flowing exhaust manifolds, and revised suspension geometry that improved both straight-line stability and cornering precision. The braking system retained front discs and rear drums but with improved pad compounds and cooling ducting developed through competition use.
In racing trim, these GTAs were the dominant force in the European Touring Car Championship's under-1600cc class. The car's extraordinarily low weight — just 745 kg in Stradale form and as little as 700 kg in full race specification — gave it an unmatched power-to-weight ratio in its class. Professional drivers praised the GTA's progressive handling characteristics and the willingness of its twin-cam engine to rev freely.
The 1965 GTA represents the sweet spot of the model's production: early enough to carry the romance of the original design, yet benefiting from meaningful development improvements. It remains one of the most desirable competition-oriented road cars of the 1960s.
Same authentication concerns as other GTAs — verify aluminum body and Autodelta provenance. Check for period racing modifications that may have been crudely executed. Suspension geometry should be to original specification.
Continued production at Autodelta with incremental improvements based on racing feedback. Total GTA production across all years was approximately 500 units.
