The Nissan GT-R Nismo (R35) represents the absolute pinnacle of the R35 GT-R range, a car that takes the already formidable standard GT-R and elevates it to genuine supercar territory. Developed jointly by Nissan's performance division Nismo and the GT-R engineering team, the Nismo variant incorporates lessons learned from GT3 and Super GT racing programs to create the most capable GT-R ever offered for public sale.

The VR38DETT engine received Nismo's most comprehensive treatment. Hand-assembled Nismo-specific turbochargers with optimized turbine geometry provided faster spool-up and higher peak boost. The engine management was recalibrated to extract 600 horsepower and 481 lb-ft of torque, a substantial increase over the standard GT-R's output. Each turbocharger was individually flow-matched and balanced before installation.

The GR6 dual-clutch transmission received revised software that adapted shift speed, timing, and characteristics to match the increased engine output. The shift calibration in R-Mode was particularly aggressive, executing gear changes with a violence that could be felt physically. The ATTESA system was recalibrated to optimize torque distribution for the additional power.

Aerodynamic modifications were extensive and functional. A new front bumper with carbon fiber canards generated additional front downforce, while a massive carbon fiber rear wing provided significant rear downforce. The underbody was refined with additional diffuser elements. Total downforce at speed was substantially greater than the standard GT-R, improving high-speed stability and cornering grip.

The chassis received a thorough Nismo treatment. Spring rates were increased, damper valving was revised for more aggressive settings, and the anti-roll bars were stiffened. Nismo-specific 20-inch Rays forged wheels reduced unsprung weight while accommodating larger brake discs. The optional carbon-ceramic brake package provided race-car stopping power with exceptional fade resistance.

Weight reduction measures included carbon fiber body panels, a carbon fiber trunk lid, and reduced sound deadening. The interior featured Recaro bucket seats, alcantara-wrapped surfaces, and carbon fiber trim. The overall weight reduction, combined with the power increase, dramatically improved the car's power-to-weight ratio.

The driving experience of the GT-R Nismo was markedly more intense than the standard car. The additional power was immediately apparent, with the turbochargers spooling faster and building boost more urgently. The stiffer chassis provided sharper responses and higher cornering speeds, while the increased aerodynamic downforce inspired confidence at speeds where the standard car would feel less settled.

The GT-R Nismo has been continuously updated throughout the R35's long production life, with each iteration receiving improvements. The car has demonstrated its capability through numerous Nurburgring lap records and consistent success in customer racing programs worldwide.
