McLaren Solus GT V10

The McLaren Solus GT, unveiled in 2022 and delivered from 2023, is quite simply one of the most extreme cars ever conceived for customer use. Originally designed as a virtual concept for the Gran Turismo PlayStation game series (as the McLaren Vision Gran Turismo), customer demand convinced McLaren to make it a reality — bringing a fantasy car to life in the most extraordinary fashion.

At its heart is a purpose-built 5.2-litre naturally aspirated V10 engine, developed specifically for the Solus GT and capable of revving to 10,000 rpm while producing 829 bhp. This engine was designed to deliver the visceral, high-revving experience that turbocharged and hybrid powertrains cannot replicate. The sound alone — a screaming V10 at maximum revs — makes the Solus GT one of the most aurally stunning vehicles in existence.

The Solus GT is a single-seater with a central driving position, enclosed by a fighter-jet-style canopy that hinges forward for entry. The driver sits in a reclined position, surrounded by a Formula 1-inspired cockpit with a removable steering wheel featuring integrated displays and controls. The chassis is a carbon-fibre monocoque, and the entire car weighs just 1,000 kg — giving it an 829 bhp per tonne power-to-weight ratio.

Aerodynamics are central to the Solus GT's design. Active aerodynamic elements, including a massive rear wing and underbody diffuser, generate over 1,200 kg of downforce at speed — more than the car's own weight. This means the Solus GT could theoretically drive upside down on a ceiling at sufficient speed, though McLaren understandably chose not to demonstrate this.

The suspension uses F1-derived pushrod-activated inboard springs and dampers, with ground clearance adjustable for different circuit requirements. The sequential gearbox provides lightning-fast shifts, and the carbon-ceramic brakes deliver extraordinary stopping power.

Limited to just 25 examples, each priced at approximately USD 3.5 million, the Solus GT was sold out before its public revelation. McLaren provided buyers with a bespoke experience programme including professional driver coaching and exclusive track day access.

The Solus GT represents the absolute extreme of McLaren's capabilities: a car born from virtual reality, brought to life with no compromises, and designed to provide the closest experience to Formula 1 that any customer can legally access. It is McLaren's ultimate statement of engineering ambition.

$4,000,000 – $7,000,000

With only 25 built and all pre-sold, the Solus GT is virtually impossible to acquire. Any example appearing on the secondary market would command an enormous premium. Track-only status means verification of usage history, crash damage, and component wear is critical. The bespoke V10 engine and unique components mean servicing can only be performed by McLaren. Authentication through McLaren's records is essential. These are investment-grade automotive art pieces as much as they are functional vehicles.
