Honda S2000 CR (Club Racer)

The S2000 CR (Club Racer) represented Honda's final evolution of the legendary S2000 roadster, created specifically for track enthusiasts. Released exclusively in the US market for 2008-2009, only 699 examples were produced, making it the rarest factory S2000 variant. The CR featured aggressive weight reduction: air conditioning and audio system deleted (available as no-cost options), thinner rear window, and lighter wheels saved approximately 90 pounds. The 2.2-liter F22C1 VTEC engine carried over from the AP2 generation, producing 237 horsepower at 7,800 RPM with redline at 8,000 RPM. Suspension received significant upgrades including stiffer springs, revised dampers, and updated geometry for improved track performance. The front and rear stabilizer bars were increased in diameter. An aggressive aero kit added a large rear wing, front lip spoiler, and rear diffuser, all producing measurable downforce. Lightweight 17-inch wheels wearing grippier Bridgestone RE070 tires improved handling. The interior featured special CR badging, Alcantara-trimmed seats, and a CR-specific shift knob. Available only in Berlina Black, Apex Pearl White, and Grand Prix White, the CR's limited production and track-focused nature have made it highly collectible, with values significantly exceeding standard S2000s.

Verify CR authenticity through VIN - should have specific designation. Only 699 built for US market. Check for aero kit including rear wing and front lip. Should have CR badging and specific interior trim. Many tracked extensively - inspect for accident damage and hard use. Check for proper CR suspension components - stiffer than standard. Engine should rev cleanly to 8,000 RPM with VTEC engagement at 6,000 RPM. Verify differential operation and listen for noise. Inspect for rust on AP2 chassis - rare but possible. Soft top condition important. Service history critical showing oil changes. Timing chain tensioner updates important. Prices $45,000-$85,000 depending on mileage and condition. Original equipment more valuable than modified. Many CRs have aftermarket exhaust and suspension. AC delete models rarer but less practical. Compression test all cylinders. Pristine examples approaching $100,000.
