Honda S600

The S600 evolved from the S500 with a larger 606cc DOHC engine producing 57 hp at 8500 rpm. Available as both convertible and coupe (introduced 1965), it offered more refinement while retaining the screaming high-rev character. The chain-driven dual overhead cams and four Keihin carburetors delivered 94 hp per liter. Four-wheel independent suspension improved handling over the S500. The tiny roadster could reach 90 mph and delivered exceptional fuel economy. Export models were sold in some markets, introducing Western audiences to Honda's engineering philosophy. The S600 proved more successful than the S500, with over 13,000 units produced, and helped establish Honda's credibility as an automaker.

More common than S500 but still rare. Coupes are rarer than roadsters and command premium prices. Verify engine matching numbers - replacements are scarce. Inspect thoroughly for rust in all areas, particularly floor pans and chassis. Original parts are difficult to source; buy the most complete car possible. Japanese domestic market cars may have different specifications. Join Honda S-car clubs for parts networks and technical support. Budget for specialized mechanical expertise.
