BMW 502 3.2 Liter V8

The BMW 502 represented a bold statement of Germany's postwar recovery, featuring BMW's first-ever V8 engine in an elegant sedan body. The aluminum 3.2-liter V8 produced 140 horsepower, providing effortless performance wrapped in handsome styling that earned the nickname 'Baroque Angel.' With independent front suspension and a spacious, luxuriously appointed interior, the 502 competed with Mercedes-Benz's finest while establishing BMW's sporting character. Today these rare sedans are appreciated for their historical significance and distinctive presence.

Rust is the primary enemy, check sills, floor pans, and rear suspension mounts carefully. Parts availability is challenging but specialist suppliers exist. The aluminum V8 is generally robust but requires proper cooling system maintenance. Expect high restoration costs.

Introduced in 1954 with a 2.6L V8, upgraded to 3.2L in 1955. The V8 was designed by Fritz Fiedler and was BMW's first eight-cylinder engine. Production was limited due to hand-assembly and high costs.
