Marmon Sixteen

Marmon's masterpiece Sixteen represented the pinnacle of American automotive engineering in the early 1930s. The all-aluminum 45-degree V16 engine featured overhead valves and produced 200 horsepower with remarkable smoothness. Industrial designer Walter Dorwin Teague created bodies with integrated fenders and streamlined forms years ahead of competitors. Despite technical superiority, the Depression devastated Marmon's wealthy customer base, forcing the company to close in 1933 after building fewer than 400 Sixteens.
