Polestar 5 Electric GT
The Polestar 5, which began production in 2025, is the car that defines Polestar's ambitions as a standalone luxury electric performance brand. Based on the widely acclaimed Precept concept car first shown in 2020, the production 5 retains the concept's dramatic proportions and design language while adding the engineering substance needed to compete with established GT cars like the Porsche Taycan Turbo S and Audi e-tron GT RS.
The powertrain is Polestar's most powerful yet. Dual permanent magnet electric motors produce a combined 884 horsepower and 664 lb-ft of torque, channeled through an all-wheel-drive system. The motors use Polestar's bonded magnet technology, which improves efficiency and reduces reliance on rare earth materials compared to conventional designs.
The battery pack is a 102 kWh unit using advanced cell chemistry that supports 800-volt architecture. This enables rapid DC charging at up to 350 kW, allowing an 80 percent charge in approximately 20 minutes. Range is estimated at around 600 km on the WLTP cycle, making the 5 a genuinely usable grand touring car.
Architecturally, the Polestar 5 sits on a bespoke aluminum-intensive platform developed specifically for this car. Unlike the Polestar 2, which shares its platform with the Volvo C40, the 5 has a unique structure designed from the ground up for its four-door GT mission. The low, fastback roofline creates a sleek profile that is distinctly different from conventional sedans.
The interior reflects Polestar's Scandinavian design philosophy with sustainably sourced materials throughout. Recycled PET plastics, bio-based composites, and responsibly sourced textiles replace traditional luxury materials without sacrificing quality or aesthetics. The minimalist dashboard is dominated by a large central touchscreen running Google-based infotainment, while a driver-focused instrument cluster provides essential information.
Driving dynamics benefit from the low center of gravity provided by the floor-mounted battery, combined with sophisticated adaptive air suspension and torque vectoring between the front and rear motors. The result is a car that handles with surprising agility for its considerable weight, while the air springs provide genuine comfort on longer journeys.
The Polestar 5 represents the brand's coming of age. Where the Polestar 1 was a halo car and the 2 a volume model, the 5 is the car that establishes Polestar as a genuine alternative to established premium marques in the luxury GT segment.
As a new model, focus on ensuring proper delivery condition and that all software is up to date. Verify battery health and charging capability. The 800V architecture requires compatible fast charging infrastructure. Air suspension should be checked for proper operation across all modes. Polestar's dealer network is still expanding, so verify local service availability.
Based on the Polestar Precept concept car shown in 2020. Uses a bespoke platform not shared with other Volvo/Geely vehicles. Production takes place at the Chengdu factory in China. Features 800V electrical architecture and Polestar's proprietary bonded magnet motor technology.
