Volvo V60 Polestar

The Volvo V60 Polestar represents the culmination of Polestar's work as Volvo's performance partner before the Polestar brand was transformed into a standalone electric vehicle manufacturer. Limited to approximately 1,500 units worldwide, the V60 Polestar was the last Volvo to receive the full Polestar treatment with a combustion engine — making it an increasingly important milestone in the history of both brands.

The heart of the V60 Polestar was Volvo's T6 inline-six engine, a 3.0-liter turbocharged unit that Polestar extracted 350 horsepower and 500 Nm of torque from through revised engine management, a larger intercooler, optimized turbocharger mapping, and a free-flowing exhaust system. The inline-six configuration gave the engine a smoothness and refinement that perfectly suited the V60's grand touring character, while the substantial torque output provided effortless overtaking ability at any speed. The power was transmitted through a recalibrated Aisin-Warner six-speed automatic with faster shift times and sportier shift logic, driving all four wheels through a Haldex-based AWD system.

Polestar's chassis modifications were comprehensive. Ohlins manually adjustable dampers provided a significantly firmer and more controlled ride than the standard V60, with 22 clicks of adjustment allowing owners to fine-tune the car's behavior between comfortable touring and aggressive track driving. Six-piston front and four-piston rear brake calipers — painted in Polestar's signature bright blue — gripped enlarged ventilated discs. Stiffer springs, firmer anti-roll bars, and revised steering calibration completed the dynamic transformation. The result was a car that could embarrass many dedicated sports cars on a twisting road while still functioning perfectly as a family wagon.

Visually, the V60 Polestar was distinguished by a bespoke front bumper with larger air intakes, a carbon fiber rear diffuser, a subtle trunk-lid spoiler, and unique 20-inch alloy wheels. The most distinctive feature was the paint: the majority of V60 Polestars were finished in Rebel Blue, a deep, lustrous blue that became synonymous with the Polestar sub-brand. Interior changes included sport seats with Polestar branding, blue contrast stitching, an Alcantara steering wheel, and a unique Polestar start-up animation in the instrument cluster.

The V60 Polestar was never intended for mass production. Each car was hand-assembled at Volvo's Torslanda plant with Polestar's modifications applied during the production process rather than as aftermarket additions. This factory-integrated approach ensured that the Polestar modifications were covered by Volvo's standard warranty — a significant advantage over third-party tuning.

With Polestar's transformation into an electric vehicle brand, the V60 Polestar has become the definitive representation of what the Polestar name meant in its original context: a Swedish motorsport company that could extract extraordinary performance from Volvo's production platforms while maintaining the brand's core values of safety, durability, and understated Scandinavian design. Values have already begun rising as the market recognizes the V60 Polestar's significance as the last of its kind.

Verify the car's Polestar provenance through Volvo's VIN decoder — there are no fake Polestar conversions with the correct VIN. With only 1,500 built, finding one may take patience. Check the Ohlins dampers for leaks or excessive wear. The T6 engine is robust but verify the turbocharger is healthy (no excessive smoke or lag). The six-speed automatic should shift crisply in sport mode. Check the Haldex AWD system — it requires regular fluid changes. The 20-inch wheels are vulnerable to curb damage and replacements are expensive. Brake pads for the Brembo-spec calipers must be sourced specifically. Rebel Blue paint should be inspected for stone chips, which are highly visible. All electrical systems and Polestar-specific functions should be tested.

Limited to approximately 1,500 units worldwide (750 S60 Polestar sedans were also produced). Hand-assembled at Torslanda with Polestar modifications integrated during factory production. Available exclusively with the T6 inline-six engine and AWD — the last Volvo to use this engine configuration before the brand moved to four-cylinder-only powertrains. Rebel Blue was the signature color, though other colors were available. Production spanned 2014-2018 model years.
