Lexus LC500
The Lexus LC500 was a car that restored faith in the grand tourer concept. Based almost entirely on the stunning LF-LC concept car from 2012, the production LC500 was remarkably faithful to the original design — a rare achievement in the automotive industry. Under its flowing body sat the 2UR-GSE 5.0-litre naturally aspirated V8 from the RC F and GS F, producing 471 hp with a glorious soundtrack that revved to 7,300 rpm. The engine was mated to a new 10-speed automatic gearbox that was both smooth in comfort mode and sharp enough in sport mode to satisfy enthusiasts. The LC500's chassis was built on Lexus's GA-L rear-wheel-drive platform, featuring a front-midship engine layout for optimal weight distribution. Adaptive variable suspension, a limited-slip differential, and four-wheel steering gave the LC unexpected agility for its size. But the LC500's greatest achievement was its role as an emotional luxury grand tourer — something Japanese manufacturers had rarely attempted. The craftsmanship inside was extraordinary: hand-pleated door panels, tatami-weave interior options, and a fit-and-finish that rivaled Bentley. The LC500 proved that Lexus could make a car that stirred the soul, not just the spreadsheet.
Lexus reliability means the LC500 is remarkably trouble-free. V8 engine is well-proven from IS-F/RC-F duty. 10-speed gearbox robust. Check for parking damage — body panels expensive. Avoid LC500h hybrid if you want the V8 sound. Convertible adds weight but gains style.
LC500 (V8) and LC500h (V6 hybrid) from 2017. Convertible from 2020. Built on GA-L platform. Inspiration Series and Aviation limited editions. Shared V8 with RC F/GS F/IS F.
