Mazda Eunos Cosmo 20B Type S
The 1991 Mazda Eunos Cosmo 20B Type S represented the apex of rotary engine development. Its unique triple-rotor 20B-REW engine, the only three-rotor production engine ever made, combined sequential twin turbochargers with advanced electronics to produce 280 horsepower and 296 lb-ft of torque. The Cosmo blended exotic powertrain technology with luxury grand touring features including GPS navigation, CRT touchscreen, advanced climate control, and premium leather interior. Despite its technical sophistication and limited production of just 8,875 units, the Cosmo remains one of the most underappreciated Japanese performance icons.
Extremely rare with fewer than 9,000 produced. Verify rotary engine health with compression test on all three rotors. Check for oil consumption and coolant system integrity. GPS and CRT screen often fail and are nearly impossible to repair. Turbos and associated plumbing require careful inspection. Most examples are high mileage. Parts are exceptionally scarce.
Built at Mazda's Hiroshima Ujina Plant. The 20B triple-rotor engine was entirely hand-assembled. The Cosmo was sold exclusively through Mazda's upscale Eunos dealer network in Japan only.
