AMC Matador X Oleg Cassini

AMC hired fashion designer Oleg Cassini to create a luxury trim package for the polarizing Matador coupe. The result featured unique Barcelona Red vinyl roof, plush velour interior, and Cassini's signature on the dashboard. The Matador X coupe featured radical styling with huge glass area and curved side windows, but buyers rejected the unconventional looks. Only 3,674 Cassini editions were built, making it rare today.

$12,000 – $35,000

Finding an Oleg Cassini edition with original interior is key to value. Verify Cassini plaque on dashboard. These cars are dirt cheap currently but gaining cult following. Parts availability is poor - join AMC clubs. Mechanical components are durable.

The Matador coupe shared nothing with the sedan except drivetrain. AMC hoped to compete with Monte Carlo and Cutlass Supreme but radical styling alienated buyers. The Oleg Cassini edition was the top trim level for 1974 only. Despite NASCAR success, the Matador X failed commercially.
