Maserati GranTurismo Trofeo
The 2023 Maserati GranTurismo represents a landmark moment for the Trident brand: the return of its most beloved nameplate with an entirely new car built around Maserati's first in-house designed and manufactured engine in over two decades. The Nettuno V6 twin-turbo engine, which debuted in the MC20, powers the Trofeo variant, while the revolutionary Folgore variant makes the GranTurismo the world's first fully electric grand tourer from a luxury marque.
The Trofeo's Nettuno engine, a 3.0-liter twin-turbocharged V6, produces 550 horsepower using a unique pre-chamber combustion system derived from Formula One technology. This innovative approach uses two spark plugs per cylinder: a conventional one and a secondary plug in a small pre-chamber that creates a more efficient, more powerful burn. The result is remarkable specific output with strong throttle response.
The design, created under Klaus Busse's leadership, is a masterful blend of modern Maserati identity and classic grand touring proportions. The long hood, set-back cabin, and muscular haunches recall the original GranTurismo while incorporating contemporary design language. The front features Maserati's new grille interpretation with the traditional trident, while the rear is dominated by a distinctive boomerang-shaped LED light signature.
The chassis is based on Maserati's new MC platform, shared with the MC20 but adapted for grand touring purposes. The structure uses extensive aluminum and advanced composites for an optimal balance of rigidity and weight. Air suspension with adaptive dampers is standard on the Trofeo, providing the ability to switch between comfortable cruising and spirited driving at the touch of a button.
The all-wheel-drive system provides confident traction in all conditions, while the ZF eight-speed automatic transmission offers smooth shifts in comfort mode and rapid changes in sport and corsa modes. Carbon-ceramic brakes are standard on the Trofeo.
The Folgore variant, with its 761-horsepower tri-motor electric powertrain and 800-volt architecture, represents Maserati's vision of a fully electric future. It is the most powerful GranTurismo variant and marks Maserati's first step into full electrification.
The new GranTurismo is a critical car for Maserati's future, demonstrating that the brand can compete with the best from Porsche, Aston Martin, and Bentley while maintaining the uniquely Italian character that has defined Maserati for over a century.
