Alpina B3 Biturbo Coupe

The Alpina B3 Biturbo offered a fundamentally different approach to the BMW 3 Series coupe compared to the M3. While the M3 pursued high-revving naturally aspirated fury with its 4.0-liter V8, Alpina took the N54 twin-turbo inline-six and refined it to produce 360 horsepower with a massive 500 Nm of torque available from just 3,800 RPM. The result was a car that felt effortlessly fast rather than frenetically quick — perfectly suited to devouring autobahn miles at speeds that would land you in prison in most countries. Alpina, recognized by the German government as an independent manufacturer (not just a tuner), hand-finishes every car at their Buchloe facility. The B3 received unique Alpina wheels, suspension calibration, interior appointments with the signature Alpina instruments, and crucially, a deletion of the speed limiter — allowing a verified top speed of 295 km/h. The driving experience emphasized long-distance comfort with phenomenal straight-line speed, rather than the track-focused sharpness of the M3. For many European enthusiasts, particularly those who regularly travel at high speed, the B3 Biturbo was the smarter choice.

Verify Alpina authenticity with VIN and Alpina production records. The N54 engine is well-known but can have issues with wastegates, injectors, and VANOS solenoids. Alpina-specific parts (wheels, interior trim) are more expensive than standard BMW. Service at Alpina-authorized facilities recommended.

Alpina is recognized as an independent manufacturer (not a tuner) by the German government, and each car receives its own VIN plate. Cars start life as standard BMW 335i models at BMW's factory, then are shipped to Alpina in Buchloe for transformation. Each B3 takes several days to complete.
