Porsche 911 993 GT2
The Porsche 911 GT2 (993 generation) represents the pinnacle of air-cooled 911 development and one of the most extreme road cars Porsche ever produced. Created for GT2 racing homologation, this model took the Turbo's 3.6-liter twin-turbo engine and boosted power to 430 horsepower while stripping out all-wheel drive to save weight. The result was a rear-wheel-drive monster that demanded respect and delivered phenomenal performance.
Extensive weight reduction was key to the GT2's character. The rear seats were removed, lightweight racing seats installed, air conditioning deleted, and sound deadening stripped out. Carbon fiber and aluminum were used extensively. The suspension was race-tuned with adjustable dampers, and massive brakes provided stopping power. The aggressive aerodynamic package included a large rear wing, front splitter, and widened fenders to accommodate the wide competition wheels and tires.
Performance was absolutely staggering. The GT2 could sprint from 0-60 mph in just 3.7 seconds and reach a top speed of 183 mph. More importantly, on track it was devastatingly fast, with handling that rewarded skilled drivers while punishing mistakes. The rear-weight bias and tremendous power meant oversteer was always waiting for the unwary, creating a car that required skill and bravery to extract maximum performance.
Only 57 examples were produced, making the 993 GT2 extraordinarily rare. Competition versions were even more extreme, with over 600 horsepower and extensive racing modifications. Today, the 993 GT2 is among the most valuable modern Porsches, with prices exceeding $2 million for the best examples. As the final air-cooled GT2 and arguably the ultimate expression of the classic 911 formula, it represents the holy grail for many Porsche collectors.
Extremely valuable at $1.2M-$2.5M+. Only 57 road cars built. Verify authenticity and matching numbers carefully. Competition history adds value. Expensive to maintain. Many race-modified cars exist. Professional pre-purchase inspection essential.
