Fiat X1/9 VS (Volumex Supercharged)

The X1/9 VS represented the ultimate evolution of Fiat's beloved mid-engine sports car. Fitted with a Volumex G-Lader supercharger (the same type later used by VW), the 1.5-liter four-cylinder produced 135 horsepower - a 50% increase over the standard car. This transformed the X1/9's character from willing revver to torquey performer. The VS package included upgraded brakes, suspension, wider wheels, and distinctive body graphics. With only about 1,800 produced over two years, the VS remains the rarest and most desirable X1/9 variant.

Verify authenticity - some standard X1/9s have been modified to VS specification. Check for correct Volumex supercharger and VS-specific badges and graphics. Rust in sills, floors, and around targa mounts is common. The supercharger requires specialist maintenance and rebuild. Engine timing belt is critical - failure causes valve damage. Electrical issues typical of period Fiats. Original VS examples command significant premium over standard X1/9s.

Approximately 1,800 VS examples produced by Bertone from 1984-1985. The Volumex G-Lader supercharger was installed at the factory. Most examples sold in Italy and select European markets. The VS was never officially imported to the USA. Production ended when Bertone took over X1/9 production from Fiat in 1982 and continued through 1989.
