Chevrolet Camaro Z28 Cross-Fire Injection

The 1982 Chevrolet Camaro Z28 Cross-Fire Injection represented the third-generation Camaro's debut with modern technology. The Cross-Fire Injection system used two computer-controlled throttle-body injectors atop a dual-plane intake manifold, an unusual configuration that earned mixed reviews. While the 165 horsepower seemed modest, the system provided better driveability and fuel economy than carburetors. The third-gen Camaro's modern aerodynamic styling and improved handling made it competitive despite modest power. The Cross-Fire system was shared with the Corvette and was quickly replaced by more modern fuel injection.

$8,000 – $20,000

Cross-Fire injection parts can be expensive and scarce. Many owners have converted to carburetors or modern EFI. Check for proper operation of both throttle bodies. The 700R4 transmission is generally reliable but can fail if abused.

The Cross-Fire Injection system was used only from 1982-1984 on the Camaro Z28. It was replaced by tuned-port injection in 1985. The system had a reputation for complexity and difficult maintenance.
