The Skoda Kodiaq RS made headlines when it set a Nurburgring record for seven-seat SUVs upon its 2019 launch, a remarkable achievement for a brand more commonly associated with practical family transportation. Initially powered by a BiTDI diesel, the facelifted version switched to a 2.0 TSI petrol engine producing 245 horsepower, creating an even more compelling performance SUV.
The 2.0-liter EA888 turbocharged petrol engine produced 245 horsepower and 370 Nm of torque, channeled through the proven DSG seven-speed dual-clutch transmission and Haldex-type all-wheel drive. This combination delivered a 0-100 km/h time of 6.9 seconds, remarkable for a seven-seat family SUV weighing nearly 1,750 kilograms.
The RS treatment was more than just a bigger engine. Skoda fitted the Kodiaq RS with Progressive Steering for variable ratio assistance, Dynamic Chassis Control (DCC) for adaptive damping, and 20-inch Xtreme alloy wheels. The brakes were uprated with larger ventilated discs front and rear. The result was an SUV that could be hustled through corners with genuine enthusiasm while retaining the composed ride quality expected of a family car.
Visually, the Kodiaq RS stood apart from standard models through its gloss black exterior trim, unique front bumper with larger air intakes, black-finished 20-inch wheels, and RS badging.
