Honda Prelude XX

The 1981 Honda Prelude was revolutionary when introduced, offering European-style sport coupe sophistication at a Japanese price. Its low-slung wedge design with concealed headlights turned heads, while the refined 1.8-liter SOHC engine and precise 5-speed manual transmission delivered engaging performance. Honda's first four-wheel independent suspension gave it handling that embarrassed many pricier European rivals. The original Prelude proved that a front-wheel-drive coupe could be both practical and genuinely fun to drive.

$5,000 – $15,000

First-gen Preludes are increasingly rare. Check for rust in the floor pans and rear shock towers. The carburetor setup requires proper tuning. Clean, original examples with sunroofs are most desirable.

The Prelude was Honda's first car with four-wheel independent suspension and aimed directly at European sports coupes. It became an instant success and established a loyal following.
