Datsun 280Z 2+2

The 1976 Datsun 280Z 2+2 represented Nissan's effort to make the iconic Z-car more practical for families without sacrificing performance. Stretching the wheelbase by 12 inches provided usable rear seats, while the 2.8-liter L28 inline-six with Bosch fuel injection delivered smooth, reliable power. Though purists favored the shorter two-seater, the 2+2 offered genuine versatility with a more compliant ride and nearly identical performance. The 280Z featured improved rust protection over earlier Zs, along with more comfortable interiors and better NVH characteristics. Today, 2+2 models are increasingly appreciated as practical classic sports cars.

Check for rust in battery tray, floor pans, rear hatch area, and frame rails. Verify fuel injection system operates correctly as parts are becoming scarce. 2+2 models command lower values than standard coupes but are more practical. Look for original aluminum wheels and proper dash configuration. Extended wheelbase makes handling slightly less sharp than two-seater.

Built at Nissan's Hiratsuka plant alongside the standard 280Z. The 2+2 accounted for roughly 40% of all S30 Z-car production. Most were exported to the United States.
