Maserati Kyalami

The Kyalami emerged during Maserati's ownership by Alejandro de Tomaso and was essentially a re-bodied De Tomaso Longchamp with Maserati's own 4.2-liter or 4.9-liter V8 engine. Styled by Pietro Frua, the elegant two-door coupe featured a long hood, short deck proportions, and refined interior appointments with Connolly leather and burled wood trim. The Maserati V8, using four Weber carburetors, produced between 265-280 horsepower depending on specification. Despite sharing its platform with the Longchamp, the Kyalami had distinctive styling and the prestige of the Maserati trident. Only about 200 examples were produced, making it one of the rarest modern Maseratis. The car offered comfortable grand touring capabilities with genuine sports car performance.

$50,000 – $100,000

Verify the chassis number with Maserati Classiche for authenticity. Check thoroughly for rust in all body panels and chassis. Ensure the Maserati V8 runs smoothly and doesn't smoke - rebuilds are expensive. Test the Weber carburetors for smooth operation across the rev range. Verify the transmission (manual or automatic) shifts properly. Check all electrical systems including gauges and lights. Examine interior for condition of leather and wood - replacements are difficult. Look for complete service history. Join the Maserati Club for support. Budget for specialist maintenance. Values range from $50k-$100k depending on condition, with the rarer manual transmission cars commanding premiums.
