Oldsmobile Cutlass 442 W-30

The 1972 Oldsmobile Cutlass 442 W-30 marked the final year of the classic A-body 442 and one of the last gasps of the muscle car era. Despite SAE net horsepower ratings dropping to 270, the 455 cubic inch V8 still produced massive torque. The W-30 package included a hotter cam, aluminum intake manifold, functional hood scoops with air induction, and special badging. Performance was still impressive for 1972. The distinctive styling with dramatic creases and flowing lines made it one of the best-looking muscle cars of the era.

Verify W-30 authenticity with build sheets or documentation. The W-30 package was not externally obvious. Check for rust in typical GM A-body areas. Original drivetrain is essential for value.

1972 was the final year for the A-body 442. Only 772 W-30 packages were ordered. This was also the first year for SAE net horsepower ratings, making comparisons to earlier years difficult.
