Ford Mustang GT/CS (California Special)
The 1968 Ford Mustang GT/CS California Special was created by Ford's San Jose assembly plant to compete with Shelby Mustangs and special editions from other manufacturers. It featured distinctive styling including side scoops, special badging, sequential tail lights borrowed from the Shelby, and blacked-out rear panel. Most were equipped with 302 or 390 V8 engines. The GT/CS was sold only in California and western states, adding to its regional appeal and collectibility.
Verify authenticity with Marti Report or factory records. Many clones exist. Check for correct GT/CS-specific parts including side scoops, Lucas fog lamps, and special rear panel treatment.
Built only at San Jose assembly plant from April to August 1968. The GT/CS was essentially a styling package that could be added to any Mustang hardtop coupe.
