History
Ford Thunderbird Landau
The fourth-generation Thunderbird Landau represented Ford's successful pivot from sports car to personal luxury coupe. Its formal roofline with simulated S-bar vinyl top and opera windows created an elegant silhouette. The standard 428 cubic inch V8 provided effortless highway cruising capability befitting a luxury GT. With sequential turn signals, hidden headlamps, and plush interiors, the Landau competed successfully against Buick Riviera and Oldsmobile Toronado while outselling both.
