Buick Riviera GS

The Riviera GS represented Buick's take on the muscle car formula, wrapping a 455 cubic-inch V8 in elegant personal luxury coupe bodywork. While Pontiac built GTOs for kids and Oldsmobile aimed at enthusiasts, Buick targeted mature buyers who appreciated both power and refinement. The GS package added dual exhausts, limited-slip differential, and sport suspension to the already impressive Riviera platform. Bill Mitchell's design maintained clean, sophisticated lines that aged better than more baroque competitors. The combination of 360 horsepower and luxury appointments created a highway cruiser that could embarrass most muscle cars.
