Cadillac ATS-V Twin-Turbo V6

The Cadillac ATS-V was the sharpest weapon in Cadillac's V-Series performance arsenal, a compact luxury sedan and coupe purpose-built to take on the BMW M3/M4, Mercedes-AMG C63, and Audi RS5. With 464 horsepower from its twin-turbocharged 3.6-liter V6, a manual transmission option, and Magnetic Ride Control, the ATS-V represented Cadillac's most focused assault on the European performance sedan establishment.

The LF4 engine was a bespoke twin-turbo development of GM's 3.6-liter V6 family, producing 464 horsepower and 445 lb-ft of torque — figures that exceeded the contemporary BMW M3 and matched the Mercedes-AMG C63. The engine revved eagerly to its 6,500 rpm redline and produced a surprisingly aggressive exhaust note for a turbocharged V6, thanks to an active exhaust system with quad tips.

Crucially, the ATS-V offered a Tremec TR6060 six-speed manual transmission — a feature that was increasingly rare in this segment. The manual was praised for its precise, mechanical shift quality, though most buyers opted for the eight-speed automatic with paddle shifters. Both transmissions included an active limited-slip differential for improved traction and handling balance.

Magnetic Ride Control provided the ATS-V with an extraordinary range of ride quality. In Touring mode, the car was a civilized luxury sedan. Switch to Track mode and the dampers firmed dramatically, the throttle response sharpened, stability control relaxed, and the exhaust opened up. The transformation was remarkable — the same car could cruise comfortably on the highway and then carve through a mountain pass with genuine sports car precision.

The ATS-V rode on wider wheels and tires than the standard ATS, wrapped in Michelin Pilot Super Sport rubber. Massive Brembo brakes — six-piston front, four-piston rear — provided fade-free stopping power even during sustained track use. An optional Performance Package added carbon fiber aero components and Recaro seats.

Despite its exceptional capability, the ATS-V was a slow seller. The Cadillac badge still carried less prestige than BMW's propeller logo in this segment, and the interior quality, while improved over earlier Cadillacs, still fell short of German competitors. Production ended when the ATS was replaced by the CT4 platform. Today, the ATS-V is recognized as a genuine performance bargain — a legitimate M3 competitor that can be purchased for a fraction of its European rivals' used prices.

$30,000 – $55,000

The LF4 twin-turbo V6 is a robust engine but check for turbo wastegate rattle (a known TSB item). Carbon buildup on intake valves is common with direct injection — ask about walnut blasting service history. The Magnetic Ride Control shocks are expensive to replace ($600+ each). The CUE infotainment system's capacitive touch screen can become unresponsive. Manual transmission examples are more desirable and hold their value better. Check the differential mount for clunking. The Brembo brakes are expensive to service but provide excellent performance. Suspension bushings wear quickly if the car has been tracked. For long-term collectibility, the manual coupe is the most desirable configuration.

The ATS-V was offered as both a sedan and coupe from 2016-2019. Exact production numbers are not published by GM but estimated at a few thousand units annually. Manual transmission take rate was approximately 25-30%, making manual ATS-Vs relatively rare. The ATS-V was replaced conceptually by the CT4-V Blackwing, which used the same LF4 engine.
