Skoda Octavia RS 245

The Skoda Octavia RS 245 was the ultimate expression of the 'stealth performance' philosophy. Based on the MQB platform shared with the VW Golf GTI and Golf R, the Octavia RS used the EA888 2.0 TSI engine producing 245 hp — identical to the Golf GTI Performance. But the Octavia RS added significant practical advantages: a larger cabin, a substantially bigger boot, and lower running costs, all while matching the GTI's straight-line performance. The 7-speed DSG dual-clutch gearbox delivered rapid, seamless shifts, while the electronically-controlled differential helped deploy power to the front wheels effectively. The multi-link rear suspension (compared to the Golf's torsion beam) gave the Octavia RS a more composed rear end over bumpy roads. The RS badge, first used on the Octavia in 2001, has built a devoted following among enthusiasts who appreciate the Skoda's rational approach to performance. Why pay more for a badge when you can have the same engineering in a more practical package? The Octavia RS 245 embodied this pragmatic Czech approach to motoring perfectly.

VW Group mechanicals mean excellent parts support. DSG fluid change at 60,000 km intervals is essential. Check for carbon buildup on direct injection valves. The EA888 engine is well-proven but timing chain tensioner can be an issue on earlier engines. Water pump failure is known on this engine generation.

Built on the VW Group MQB platform. The EA888 2.0 TSI engine is shared across VW, Audi, and Seat models. The RS badge was introduced to the Octavia in 2001. Multi-link rear suspension is standard on the RS (lesser Octavias use torsion beam). Available as both liftback and estate.
