Toyota Sera Standard
Toyota's Sera represented an experimental design study brought to production, featuring dramatic butterfly-style doors that tilted up and forward, and an enormous glass canopy providing panoramic visibility. Based on the Tercel platform and powered by the 5E-FHE engine, the Sera prioritized style over performance. Its bubble-era Japanese design philosophy and unique door mechanism have made it increasingly collectible, especially after several were imported to Europe and the UK where they gained a dedicated following.
Butterfly door mechanism requires careful inspection. Glass seal deterioration common. Check door alignment and hinges. Most have been imported from Japan. Verify door operation thoroughly.
Japan-only model initially, later exported to UK and Europe. Featured one of the largest glass areas of any production car. Production limited by complex door mechanism.
