Toyota Publica
The Publica was Toyota's answer to Japan's need for affordable motorization in the 1960s. Its simple design prioritized fuel efficiency and low running costs over performance. Early models used unusual horizontally-opposed air-cooled engines before switching to conventional water-cooled units. The Publica established Toyota's reputation for building reliable, economical vehicles and spawned the Sports 800 variant.
