History
Zastava Yugo 45
The Zastava Yugo was Yugoslavia's most exported automobile, based on the Fiat 127 platform but simplified for local production. While adequate for European markets and developing countries, the Yugo became infamous when exported to the United States as a budget car in the mid-1980s. Quality control issues, outdated design, and poor dealer support created a reputation problem from which it never recovered. Despite this, the Yugo remained in production in various forms until 2008, serving its intended market of cost-conscious Eastern European buyers.
