Nissan Fairlady Z 432 (S20)
The Nissan Fairlady Z 432 represents the ultimate first-generation Z-car, combining the beautiful S30 chassis with the legendary S20 engine from the Skyline GT-R. Named '432' for its engine configuration - 4 valves per cylinder, 3 carburetors, and 2 camshafts - this limited production model was built for homologation purposes. The S20 inline-six displaced 2.0 liters and produced 160 horsepower at 7,000 RPM with an 8,000 RPM redline, far exceeding the standard L-series engines. Triple Mikuni-Solex carburetors, dual overhead cams, and hemispherical combustion chambers derived directly from racing technology. The close-ratio 5-speed manual transmission came from the GT-R, as did the limited-slip differential. Suspension received upgrades with stiffer springs and dampers. Lightweight construction and race-bred components created exceptional performance for the era. The 432 featured distinctive badging and special interior trim. Racing success came immediately with victories in SCCA competition and Japanese racing series. With only 420 examples produced between 1969-1970, the 432 has become the most collectible and valuable Z-car variant, regularly commanding $150,000+ for pristine examples. An additional 12 432-R race versions were built with further lightweighting and competition parts.
Extreme rarity - only 420 built. Verify 432 designation through chassis plate and engine code S20. Should have triple carburetors and 5-speed transmission. Many clones exist using standard 240Z with modified badges. Engine should rev freely to 8,000 RPM. S20 engines extremely rare and valuable. Parts availability very limited - engine components especially scarce. Rust common in floor pans, battery area, and rocker panels. Verify original panels - many restored with aftermarket. Check for accident damage and prior repairs. Service documentation critical. Prices $100,000-$200,000+ for authentic examples. Restoration costs can exceed $100,000. Original specification worth significantly more than modified. Matching numbers essential. Expert inspection mandatory before purchase. Investment-grade collectible requiring climate-controlled storage.
