History
NSU Ro 80
The NSU Ro 80 was awarded European Car of the Year in 1968 for its groundbreaking design featuring exceptional aerodynamics, semi-automatic transmission, and smooth twin-rotor engine. The streamlined body and disc brakes on all wheels were years ahead of competitors. Unfortunately, premature rotor seal wear destroyed NSU's reputation and finances despite the car's brilliance in other areas. Audi absorbed NSU in 1969, and many Ro 80 innovations later appeared in Audi models, including the aerodynamic philosophy that defined their identity.
