History
Ford Falcon XR GT
The XR GT marked Ford Australia's entry into the muscle car wars, featuring a locally-assembled 289 cubic inch Windsor V8 producing 225 horsepower. With distinctive GT stripes, sports instrumentation, and upgraded suspension, the XR GT established the template for all future Falcon GT models. Its success in production car racing, particularly at Bathurst, helped build the GT legend that would culminate in the GT-HO Phase III. While more modest in performance compared to later models, the XR GT's historical significance as the first in the line makes it highly collectible among enthusiasts who appreciate its pioneering role in Australian muscle car history.
