Auto Union 1000 Sp Coupe
The Auto Union 1000 Sp featured gorgeous bodywork designed by Stuttgart coachbuilder Baur, giving the practical DKW platform a sophisticated sporting character. The three-cylinder two-stroke engine required mixing oil with fuel but delivered sprightly performance for its displacement. Front-wheel drive provided excellent traction and handling characteristics unusual for sports coupes of the era. The model helped establish Auto Union's sporting credentials before the brand evolved into Audi.
