SSC Tuatara Standard

The SSC Tuatara represents the pinnacle of American hypercar engineering, designed from the ground up with one goal: to be the fastest production car ever built. Named after the New Zealand reptile with the fastest-evolving DNA, the Tuatara features a bespoke 5.9-liter flat-plane crank V8 engine with twin turbochargers producing an astounding 1,750 horsepower on E85 fuel. The body, designed by Jason Castriota (who also penned the Ferrari P4/5), was developed entirely in CFD and wind tunnel testing to achieve a drag coefficient of just 0.279 while generating significant downforce. The carbon fiber monocoque chassis keeps weight to just 1,247 kg, giving the Tuatara an extraordinary power-to-weight ratio. In 2020, SSC claimed the Tuatara achieved a top speed of 316 mph, though this was later contested and a verified run on a closed road achieved 282.9 mph. Regardless of the exact top speed record, the Tuatara stands as a remarkable achievement from a small American manufacturer, demonstrating that hypercar excellence isn't limited to established European names.

Allocation-only purchase through SSC directly. As a low-volume hypercar, servicing requires SSC-authorized facilities. Verify build number and documentation. These will likely appreciate significantly given limited production. Ensure all service records are current.

SSC North America (formerly Shelby SuperCars, no relation to Carroll Shelby) is based in West Richland, Washington. Only 100 Tuataras are planned. The engine was developed in-house by SSC. The CIMA gearbox was co-developed for this specific application.
