History
Lada Riva 1500
The Lada Riva (VAZ-2105) was the Soviet Union's development of the licensed Fiat 124 platform, extensively modified for Russian conditions. Key changes included reinforced suspension, improved cold-weather starting, thicker metal panels, and simplified electronics for reliability. The design philosophy prioritized durability and repairability over refinement or performance. Despite archaic engineering, the Riva's ruggedness and simplicity made it successful in harsh climates worldwide, remaining in production in various markets until 2012.
