Lada Niva 2121
The Lada Niva pioneered the concept of a compact unibody SUV with permanent four-wheel drive, predating similar Western vehicles by decades. Its combination of rugged mechanicals, genuine off-road capability, and car-like handling made it successful worldwide. The simple, robust design could withstand harsh Siberian winters and Third World conditions while remaining affordable and maintainable. Despite minimal updates, the Niva remained in continuous production for over 45 years, testament to its fundamentally sound engineering.
