History
Gurgel X12
The Gurgel X12 was a uniquely Brazilian open-topped leisure vehicle combining Volkswagen Beetle mechanicals with locally-designed fiberglass bodywork. It represented the Brazilian beach buggy culture and was popular for coastal driving and light off-road adventures. The simple construction used readily available VW components, making maintenance straightforward. Various versions were offered including more utilitarian variants, and the X12 became Gurgel's most successful model during the company's independent operation.
