Trabant 601 Universal
The Trabant 601 Universal (wagon) variant provided East German families with essential cargo-carrying capability using the same revolutionary Duroplast body construction as the sedan. This synthetic material made from recycled cotton waste and resin created lightweight, rust-proof panels that defined the Trabant's unique character. The tiny two-stroke engine produced minimal power but delivered excellent fuel economy, crucial during fuel shortages. Despite technological obsolescence, the Universal remained in production for 25 years, becoming an enduring symbol of East German ingenuity and resourcefulness.
