History
Checker Marathon
Checker Motors made their virtually indestructible taxi available to retail customers as the Marathon, offering vast interior space and truck-like durability in a passenger car. The body-on-frame construction and heavy-duty components meant these cars routinely exceeded 300,000 miles in taxi service. While styling remained frozen in the early 1960s throughout production, the spacious interior with jump seats and massive trunk appealed to large families. Powered by Continental or Chevrolet engines depending on year, Marathons combined simplicity with longevity that modern cars can't match.
