History
Plymouth Sport Suburban
The 1959 Plymouth Sport Suburban took Virgil Exner's Forward Look design philosophy to its extreme with towering tailfins and futuristic styling. Despite criticism for excess, the Sport Suburban offered families genuine innovation including Chrysler's TorqueFlite push-button automatic transmission. The 318 cubic inch V8 provided reliable power, while the two-tone paint schemes and chrome accents made it unmistakably late-1950s. Today these wagons are highly sought after for their outrageous styling that perfectly captures the era's optimism.
