Jaguar F-Pace SVR 5.0 Supercharged V8

The Jaguar F-Pace SVR, first introduced in 2018 and significantly updated in 2021, represented Jaguar's most powerful SUV and its entry into the fiercely competitive performance SUV segment. Powered by the proven 5.0-litre supercharged V8, the SVR delivered the kind of performance that would have been unthinkable in an SUV just a decade earlier.

In its final 2021-2023 specification, the supercharged V8 produced 550 horsepower and 516 lb-ft of torque, improvements over the original 2018 model's 542 hp thanks to revised intake and exhaust systems. The eight-speed ZF automatic transmission was calibrated for both rapid shifts during spirited driving and smooth, relaxed operation during normal commuting.

All-wheel drive was essential for managing the enormous power output, and the system could send the majority of torque to the rear axle under dynamic driving conditions. This rear-biased torque distribution gave the F-Pace SVR a more engaging driving character than many all-wheel-drive performance SUVs, with a distinctly rear-driven feel when the driver sought it.

The SVR's chassis was extensively modified from the standard F-Pace. Springs and dampers were significantly firmer, the anti-roll bars were larger, and the adaptive dynamics system offered distinct modes from Comfort through to Track. The result was remarkable body control for a vehicle of this size and weight, with the ability to change direction with surprising agility.

The 2021 facelift brought substantial visual changes, including a redesigned front end with slimmer LED headlights, a more prominent grille, and revised rear styling. Interior upgrades included a new 11.4-inch curved touchscreen infotainment system, higher-quality materials, and improved ergonomics. The SVR-specific touches included sport seats, SVR steering wheel, and performance instrumentation.

The exhaust system deserved special mention, featuring a switchable active exhaust that could produce a spine-tingling V8 roar or settle into a more refined note for highway cruising. The SVR exhaust note became one of the most celebrated aspects of the car, providing an emotional connection that many turbocharged rivals lacked.

The F-Pace SVR competed directly with the Porsche Cayenne Turbo, BMW X5 M, and Mercedes-AMG GLE 63, and while it may not have matched all rivals in every metric, its combination of supercharged V8 character, distinctive styling, and Jaguar heritage gave it a unique appeal. As one of the last supercharged V8 vehicles in Jaguar's lineup, the F-Pace SVR has gained significance as a representation of an era that is rapidly passing.

Check for supercharger whine and ensure boost pressure is correct. The Pivi Pro infotainment system on 2021+ models can have software glitches requiring dealer updates. Brake wear can be rapid with spirited driving. The adaptive air suspension (if fitted) should be checked for leaks. Tire wear on the 22-inch wheels is rapid and replacement is expensive. As these are relatively new vehicles, warranty coverage is important. Pre-facelift 2018-2020 models are significantly cheaper but lack the interior upgrades.

The F-Pace SVR was manufactured by Magna Steyr in Graz, Austria, alongside the standard F-Pace. The 2021 facelift brought significant visual and technological updates. Production ended in 2023 as Jaguar transitioned toward electrification. The supercharged V8 engine was shared with the Range Rover Sport SVR and other JLR products.
