Hummer H2 SUT

The Hummer H2 SUT represented the peak of America's early 2000s fascination with oversized, military-inspired vehicles. Based on the GM 2500 HD platform but wrapped in the Hummer brand's distinctive military-derived styling, the SUT variant added a clever midgate system that could extend the short pickup bed into the cabin for hauling longer items. The massive Vortec 6.2-liter V8 provided ample power for the vehicle's considerable weight, while full-time four-wheel drive with locking differentials gave it genuine off-road capability — more than most owners would ever use. The H2 became a cultural phenomenon, beloved by celebrities, athletes, and anyone who wanted maximum road presence. The SUT variant was particularly popular for its blend of SUV luxury with pickup truck utility. However, the H2's thirst for fuel (averaging around 10 MPG) made it a symbol of excess, and rising fuel prices in 2008 effectively killed the model. Today, well-maintained examples are gaining appreciation as time capsules of a very specific era in American automotive culture.

Check for rust on frame and body mounts. The 6.0L (early) and 6.2L (later) V8s are generally reliable GM engines. Verify transfer case and front differential operation. Expect 10-12 MPG fuel economy. Air suspension (if equipped) can be expensive to repair. Aftermarket support is strong.

Based on the GMT820 platform shared with the Chevrolet Tahoe/Suburban. The SUT featured a unique midgate system borrowed from the Chevrolet Avalanche. Production ended when GM discontinued the Hummer brand during its 2009 bankruptcy restructuring.
