Morgan Aero 8
Unveiled at the 2000 Geneva Motor Show, the Morgan Aero 8 shocked traditionalists and modernists alike. For the first time since the 1950s, Morgan created an entirely new platform featuring a bonded and riveted aluminum chassis, independent suspension all around, and contemporary aerodynamics. Power came from BMW's M62 4.4-liter V8 producing 325 horsepower, later upgraded to BMW's 4.8-liter unit. The styling, penned by Morgan's in-house team, featured asymmetric headlights that sparked heated debate - some called it characterful, others found it awkward. Regardless of aesthetic opinions, the performance was spectacular: 0-60mph in 4.5 seconds and a top speed of 170mph placed it firmly in supercar territory. The body retained hand-formed aluminum panels over an ash wood frame for the passenger cell, blending Morgan's traditional coachbuilding with modern engineering. Inside, the cabin mixed retro styling cues with contemporary materials and BMW switchgear. The chassis was designed to accept various BMW engines, allowing Morgan to update powerplants as BMW evolved their lineup. Production was limited to approximately 150 cars annually due to hand-building processes.
