History
Hillman Avenger Tiger
Chrysler UK created the Avenger Tiger to compete in the growing hot hatch segment, though it retained rear-wheel drive. The 1500cc engine featured twin carburetors, uprated suspension, and distinctive vinyl roof and stripes. It was developed partly to homologate the model for rallying, though the rally cars were significantly modified. Production lasted only two years before being replaced by the GT model. The Tiger name recalled Rootes Group's earlier Sunbeam Tiger, though this was a much more modest performance offering.
