History
Daewoo Maepsy
The Daewoo Maepsy was essentially a Toyota Publica assembled in South Korea under license, representing the early days of Korean automotive industry. Built by Shinjin Motor (later acquired by Daewoo), it provided crucial manufacturing experience and technology transfer. The name 'Maepsy' came from combining Korean words meaning 'very new.' While not an original design, it helped establish production capabilities that would later enable Korean automotive independence and global competitiveness.
